I took a little bit of a sabbatical from Bob's Liquor Store, just figuring out the future of the brand. Still getting back into the groove of things, probably the longest creative block I've had in years. I've been trying to digest how technology is effecting society. Since A.I. (artificial intelligence, not Allen Iverson) has became a regular part of life, I have been uneased about it. I don't like how Artificial Intelligence is taking it's toll on the people. Where I think A.I. is causing irreparable damage the most is in Creativity realm. Creativity is slowly going extinct as people start leaning more into Artificial Intelligence to do simple tasks for them. Graphic Designers are in a panic across the globe, not getting as much gigs, art being undervalued and unappreciated due to A.I. flooding the market with lazy art. I feel like we watched this movie already on what can go terribly wrong giving machines autonomy. This reminds me of the Terminator, turning on us and destroying us. If A.I. continues to develop at this pace will humans be needed for any kind of labor? Will graphic design be a lost human art like ancient Greek and Egyptian art?
A.I. is causing a shrink in the job force, which is having a detrimental effect on the economy. I believe we opened up a can of worms, and it's too late to close the lid on it; it's almost like introducing your parents to the invention of Facebook. Don't call me a conspiracy theorist, but something doesn't feel right about having something doing all the thinking for you. This reminds me of athletes with no financial IQ trusting an accountant get robbed for millions.
In education, kids are using it to do their school work. 85% of teachers and 84% of students used A.I. during the 2024-2025 school year, according to Microsoft Education. Adults are using it to do daily tasks such as writing an email, doing artwork, advice, etc. Shit, even Timbaland is using it to make an A.I. musical artist that he doesn't have to pay. Drake used it to have 2Pac rap on one of his records. Now when I see an Instagram model on social media with an ass too perfect I think it's A.I. Artificial Intelligence is starting to plant itself in many industries, making them more efficient businesses, cutting down on labor cost.
Though A.I. is good for people who don't have a budget for artwork, it is bad for creativity and for graphic designers looking for work. There's literally no thought and/or effort going into the artwork except for verbal prompts/commands coming from the end user. A lot of the A.I. artwork is looking the same with no uniqueness or substance behind it. It is not that easy to mimic human expression through creativity. I think art by humans will prevail in the long run.
Artificial Intelligence has a lot of ways of benefitting humans, but a lot of downsides. A.I. is having people use less of their brain power; like a muscle, if we don't use it, it becomes weaker. I'm experiencing a lot of this first hand, freelance design gigs coming to a halt, fake designers trying to sell A.I. designs to me for $5, shit is crazy. Dependency on A.I. is having detrimental effects on society. I would think the Terminator gave us some foresight into what can potentially go wrong with giving machines autonomy, but apparently not. Even though A.I. was designed for the betterment of society, it is evolving into the detriment of the society; a crutch for the younger generations to come....
